Welcome to the Daniel's Family

About us

Stamford Daniels, founded in 1896, proudly boasts a long and storied history. The club, affectionately known as "The Daniels," was named in honour of the famously large Daniel Lambert, who passed away in Stamford. Since its inception, Stamford has been a pillar of resilience, achievement, and community spirit, navigating numerous leagues and demonstrating a tenacity that has made the club a mainstay in English football.

After an initial stint in the East Midlands League, the club's journey truly began when they joined the Northamptonshire League (later renamed the United Counties League) in 1909. Success came swiftly, with a league title secured in the 1911–12 season. Over the following decades, Stamford continued to thrive, claiming numerous honours, including the UCL Knockout Cup, Lincolnshire Senior B Cup, and multiple league championships.

The Daniels made a memorable mark in the late 1970s and early 1980s, winning three consecutive UCL titles from 1979–80 to 1981–82 and capturing the prestigious FA Vase in 1980. Their rich tradition of cup success continued as they consistently contended for silverware, including two FA Vase finals, demonstrating their prowess on both league and national stages.

A new chapter began in the Southern League, where the club’s ambition led to play-off triumphs and promotions, including a thrilling 2012–13 play-off victory against Chasetown, which saw a passionate crowd of 864 witness Stamford’s return to the Northern Premier League Premier Division. This period solidified the Daniels' place as a competitive force in English non-league football.

Their transition to the modern Zeeco Stadium in December 2014 marked a significant milestone, replacing their historic Hanson’s Field home. Though their first home league win at the new ground was hard-earned, it came just in time to secure survival in a dramatic final day victory. The ground has since seen memorable moments, including a record attendance of 1,572 in a match

against League One side Peterborough United.

Recent success came in the 2022–23 season when Stamford were crowned NPL Division One Midlands champions, securing a proud return to the seventh tier of English football. The Daniels’ journey is a testament to their enduring spirit and ambition—a story of triumphs, trials, and a community united through football.
