Our youth team extended their winning run to three games on Monday 25 November with a hard-fought 2-1 Northants Senior Youth League Cup win over Wellingborough Whitworth.

Off the back of impressive 7-0 and 3-0 wins over Desborough Town and Peterborough United respectively in the league, a tricky first round test against unbeaten NSYL South side Wellingborough was the next challenge for Paul Walker’s young side.

The Young Daniels took the lead in the first half via a Wellingborough own goal, headed past the goalkeeper, off the back of a Stan Holden corner. Stamford took a 1-0 lead into half-time, as they did in both of their previous home games against Desborough and Corby Town.

Wellingborough hit back from a corner of their own after the break to level the tie at 1-1, heading in from close range. The Young Daniels showed resilience against a strong side and retook the lead through Elliott Britton, slotting home after great link-up play from Ben Skellett and Tom Craven to carve open the visitors’ defence.

Stamford held on for the win, advancing to the second round of the cup where they will play Daventry Town at home on a date to be confirmed. The Young Daniels are back in league action next time out on Monday 2 December away at Desborough Town.
