What a great season for all involved at a high level of youth football. We progressed through four rounds of the FA Youth Cup, just getting knocked out 3-2 at Mickleover who were a full-time academy but we pushed them all the way.

We finished third in such a competitive league, which is a great achievement, and reached the League Cup final, which was great to get to having had some very tough teams to beat on the way to the final. We pushed Rushden close, agonisingly just losing 3-2 in the 90th minute.

Reflecting on the season, it has been a season where the players grew and developed together, gaining the success they duly deserved. All second-year players should be proud and take lots of good memories with them, all contributing throughout the season towards success, and also helping at the same time progress the youngsters who came in and gained valuable experience for the forthcoming years.

It was also pleasing to see so many youngsters, in school years 11 and 12, in the squad towards the end of the season showing what talent is there.

The league’s Golden Boot went to our own Matthew Walker, scoring 31 goals, which is a good achievement.

It has been a pleasure to manage and develop this squad. They got out of it what they put in and deserved everything. I wish the second years all the best in what they do next.

Also, to the first-year players, well done in your progression and looking forward to next season.
